Tassie has gained a positive boost to their local stallion line up for the coming season. With a really good percentage of his Tasmanian bred progeny proving themselves on the track, the island state will now be home to Stonebridge Regal USA.
Global Stallion Management felt he could continue his best work there and have placed him with Elderslie Horse Care and Spelling.
Stud master Sue Streit is delighted with this addition, adding a classy element to their line up of five totally different sires.
“It’s exciting to think we will have an Artsplace stallion in our wonderful state. I think he will suit the lines of a lot of the Tassie mares, such as Adios and Meadow Skipper.”
This striking and athletic individual proved himself on the track in America, his campaign producing earnings of $1,065,578. The fastest son of triple millionaire, Artsplace (1:49.4), he boasts an ultra smart mile rate of 1:48.2. Ironically his career highlight was when he placed second, and that was to a horse called Holborn Hanover who ran the fastest mile rate in history at that time, pushing Stonebridge Regal to clock 1:47.1.
He also made news by emerging victor in a duel with Rocknroll Hanover.
Spending his first three years at stud shuttling between Canada, New South Wales and New Zealand, he followed that with by standing in Victoria.
Lady Joanna is his dam and a well performed racehorse in her own right, covering the mile in 1:53.6. More impressively she is the only mare in history to produce two performers to go sub 1:48.2. Her credentials continue with her excellent breeding.
Barberry Spur US is her sire, a son of the great Niatross US. Both sires have great stats: Barberry Spur earned $1,634,017 and clocked 1:50.2 and similarly Niatross earned $2,019,213 with a best mile rate of an incredible 1:49.1 in the 80’s and 70’s respectively. It was then that Barberry Spur was the third fastest pacer in history behind Niatross (time trial) and Nihalator US with 1:49.0 in a race.
Meadow Skipper US is the sire of Almahurst Falcon US (1:52.4 TT) father of the second dam, Lady Boss.
Altogether Stonebridge Regal has 181 individual winners and only 55 of those are yet to break the magical two minutes.
Of the 126, mainly American, that have achieved under 2 minutes, there are two sharing 1:50.1 and 1:50.2, and a total of 17 that have achieved sub 1:59
Greystone Ladylike is not only the richest ($313,368) North American runner, she is also the fastest (1:50.1) and out of a Camluck mare.
Gallant Seelster is the second fastest (1:50.2) in that part of the world as well as third on the rich list with over $200,000.
Camluck features most often as the broodmare sire.
Owning the quickest Australian time is Hez A Dude. His 1:54.6 was recorded at Menangle recently, and is from an Albert Albert US mare.
A Fake Left USA mare produced Miss Stonebridge who has gone sub two minutes for each of her five wins with her best standing at 1:54.7
The Canadian all age sires list for 2014 finds him in tenth place
Tasmanian winners include Karalta Dazzler, Tania Maree, Jane Grant, Regal Idea and Ark Breeze.
Its an exciting import for Tasmania set to benefit from the arrival of Stonebridge Regal.
