Somebeachsomewhere, widely regarded as the best racehorse of the first decade of the 21st Century, was inducted into the USA Harness Racing Hall of Fame at a special ceremony at the Harness Racing Museum in Goshen, New York on Sunday (July 5).

Donna Egan, a principal of Empire Stallions who manages Somebeachsomewhere’s ‘Down Under’ stud career, was thrilled to learn of the stallion’s latest award.

“We are so proud of ‘The Beach’ on receiving this prestigious honour. He is a very special horse and it is a privilege to be associated with this superstar,” Donna said.

During his storybook race career, the colt established four world records, including the fastest mile in history (1:46.8) and recorded sub-1:50 miles in exactly half of his 20 wins.

‘Beach’ amassed more than $3.2million from 20 wins in just 21 starts – an average of $156,655 per start!

As a two-year-old he was undefeated in six starts including the Metro Pace, Nassagaweya, Champlain Stakes and Battle of Waterloo and was voted Canadian Horse of the Year. He earned $773,296 in his initial campaign.

The following year as a three-year-old Somebeachsomewhere won 14 of  his 15 starts – including eight inside 1:50 – and earned a single-season record $2,448,003 in prizemoney. He was accorded the honour of being named Horse of the Year and 3YO of the Year in USA and Canada.

Among his list of successes that year were the North America Cup, Messenger, Breeders Crown, Confederation Cup, Tattersall’s Pace, Ontario Sire Stakes Super Final and the Bluegrass Stake.

Somebeachsomewhere has carried his extraordinary deeds on the racetrack into the stallion barn.

From his first three crops to race, he has sired the winners of almost $32 million with 25 in 1:50, 206 in 1:55, two millionaires, 10 $500,000 winners and 87 $100,000 earners. His progeny include USA 2YO and 3YO of the Year Captain Treacherous (winner of $3.1 million), World Champions Somwherovrarainbow, Sunshine Beach, Apprentice Hanover and Limelight Beach.

The ‘Beach’ stands for a service fee of $US25,000 at the prestigious Hanover Shoe Farms in Pennsylvania.

From three small frozen semen crops in Australia, Somebeachsomewhere already has 44 winners from 61 starters and three individual Group 1 winners –  the outstanding colts Menin Gate, winner of this year’s VHRSC Victoria Derby and Empire Stallions 3YO Vicbred Super Series, and the undefeated juvenile Our Waikiki Beach as well as the classy filly Whereibylong, whose successes include the Breeders Crown and NSW Breeders Challenge.
