1The 2016 Racing Queensland UBET winter carnival is fast approaching and in the coming weeks, Queensland harness broadcaster Chris Barsby will profile a number of major players vying for the top prizes.

With 18 Black Type races on the program for the 2016 Winter Carnival, the carnival’s pinnacle in 2016 is the G1 Blacks A Fake, which now boasts an impressive $200,000 in stakes.

The carnival spans from May 28 to July 30.

Here’s a profile featuring a richly talented three-year-old chasing the Queensland Derby among many other features.

Name: Catcha Lefty

Stable Name: Casper

Age: 3yo gelding

Owner: Cristina Monte

Trainer: Cristina Monte

Driver: Shane Graham

Prizemoney: $97,401

Biggest win: QBRED Breeders Classic 2yo Colts & Geldings Final

Target: $75,000 Qld Derby, $25,000 GC Derby & $100,000 QBRED Triad

Trainer says: “He’s come back in really good form which followed on from his excellent rookie season and we’re looking at a number of features in the coming months. The QBRED Triad and the Queensland Derby are the obvious targets while we’re considering the Premiers Cup with him as well after he recently qualified from the stand”.

Barsby says: “Catcha Lefty is a real tradesman like performer, he goes about his business with a no fuss attitude and always performs at a high level. He’s deceptively quick and the high tempo in the bigger races coming up will suit him down to the ground and he may surprise a few if driven with cover, capable of winning a big race”.
