For so many very excited harness racing owners, it’s amazing to think it’s almost 12 months since the “2022 Neds- APG Gold Coast Sale” that attracted so much attention and excitement for the sport. The tremendous news is that the 2023 version promises to be the “must attend harness event for 2023” (in more ways than one) and more appealing due to the fact we have just 36 exhilarating entries submitted.
To take advantage of the massive $150,000 “Pot Of Gold final”, these 36 yearlings must present at the APG Gold Coast Sales day (where no non-sale entries will be taken) and in addition those eligible for the QBRED for life bonuses shown below, this leads to a very positive outlook in Qld continuing well past 2023.
With a lucrative range of exclusive stakes and bonuses on offer, only QBRED registered horses race for:
- $14,000 QBRED ‘First Win’ Bonus;
- $7,500 QBRED ‘Second Win’ Bonus;
- $3,000 QBRED ‘Third Win’ Bonus (State-bred Qbred’s only):
- $1,000 QBRED Cash bonuses (on all races <$4,500);
- Group 1 TRIADS for 2YO & 3YO; and
- Exclusive rich QBRED Race Series.
Lot 3 in the sale is a Warrawee Needy – Megseyrun – P B Bullville from Consignor Beverley Massam & Robert Cox and prepared by the Burwood Stud, Pittsworth, QLD – enquiries via 0428 718 533. This is a lot that will be on the “must see” list of the many astute buyers on site.
Why you ask?
As a two-year-old WARRAWEE NEEDY had 12 starts for nine wins, a second and a third for earnings of $535,000, with a fastest time of 1:49.4.
With a lifetime record of 1:46.4 at four years, WARRAWEE NEEDY is one of the fastest pacers ever to stand ‘down under’.
A winner of 29 races and more than $1.25 million, WARRAWEE NEEDY did it all. He was extremely fast at two (1:49:4), faster still at three (1:48:4) and fastest in the world at four (1:46:4).
In setting his world record WARRAWEE NEEDY left in his wake the likes of Heston Blue Chip and A Rocknroll Dance. E Dee’s Cam, WARRAWEE NEEDY’S sire, was the fastest horse in the US in 2003 rating 1:48.6.
WARRAWEE NEEDY’S maternal family U80, is very strong, being out of an unraced Apache’s Fame mare, Great Memories, who left Warrawee Ubeaut $1,849,213, and who established a world record for two-year-olds at 1:48.6, and Big Bay Point 1:49 ($516,747) along with the very exciting 2017 son of Captainteacherous Warrawee Vital winner of $504,609 to date.
Megseyrun is by P B Bullville who is proving to be a Group 1 and major races Broodmare siring star especially in the north with:
MANILA PLAYBOY | $243,852 | Group 1 Winner |
BRIGHT ENERGY | $242,962 | Group 3 Winner |

These are just to name a few.
If the above is not enough to get you extremely excited, this hair-raising colt is out of the most successful North American family U30 now calling the Southern Hemisphere home.
Boasting more winners than any other maternal family in Australasia, the U30 – Dairy Maid family made its way into New Zealand through the importation of the mare Norice in 1904. She began racing at age six, winning five of her first seven races before running second in the inaugural New Zealand Cup.
She was the highest stakes earner of that year. Norice also campaigned in Australia, lowering the Australian mile record for mares, before retiring to stud in New Zealand and producing eleven Classic Progeny. Her pacing son Nelson Derby won the New Zealand Derby and Auckland Cup before becoming a successful sire while his trotting full brother, Native King, won the Rowe Cup and Dominion Handicap. Four of her daughters established branches of what has become the second most prolific producing family of Classic Winners in Australasia
