mounMount Gambier season kicked off on Friday night with a big seven event program and the driving honours went to Jayson Finnis who drove a treble.

Finnis won the opening event with Crowning Glory a four year old by Courage Under Fire who made it two wins from two starts.

The second leg of Finnis treble was a special one in Dorothy Hester who gave Jayson wife Alyce her first winner as a trainer.

AlyceFinnis only took over the training of the Modern Art four year old mare this season, Dorthy Hester has had 4 starts for her for a win a second at Globe Derby and third at Terang.

Smart three year old Jumping Jolt wound up Finnis three winners when he worked forward to find the lead early and although challenger by Morning Story proved a bit too good for that pacer in the run home.

The trotters race which was the final event on the program saw an old fashion plunge come off when Crown Dream a three year old by Majestic Son led all the way  to beat back markers Heza Boy Star (who started from 80 metres behind ) and Star Gun (100m).

Crown Dream had previously had 4 starts but bad manners had seen him sent back to trails twice but after trainer Leroy O’Brien made some gear changes and a satisfactory trail at Ararat the three year old never gave anything else a chance with a faultless display of trotting.

Backed from $51 dollars to start at $6.10 on fixed odds on UBET stewards opened an inquiry into the improved performance of Crown Dream his trainer Leroy  O’Brien stated Crown Dream was a young trotter and had poor form as it had galloped in every one of its race starts prior to being spelled.

Since resuming work he statedthe trotter had a different attitude and had matured and this was demonstrated in a recent trial at Ararat where he performed well against higher class trotters.  He stated he was confident Crown Dream had overcome his tractability issues and would now perform consistently.
