LANERCOST a son of Courage Under Fire was a sensation on the race track now his first crop of yearlings will go under the hammer on Sunday at Brisbane’s APG sale.
Lanercost commenced his racing career as a 2 yearold with a 1,56.3 victory at the now Gold Coast circuit, he went onto to win 30 times from just 45 visits to the race track.
His biggest assets were his blistering speed, and his fluent and efficient gait a trait that buyers will be hoping he has passed on to his progeny.
Lanercost biggest win came in April of 2011 when he took out the $200,000 Chariots of Fire. With a closing quarter of 26.5 he gave nothing else a chance beating the best 4 years olds of his year.
But Lanercost was a brilliant 2 and 3 year old as well at two he faced the starter 10 times for 8 wins his only two defeats at 2 was in the final of the Kevin Seymour Final & the Australian Breeders Crown Final beaten a neck.
As a three year old his 9 victories included the Tasmanian & Australian Derby’s at Mowbray at Group 1 level and a heat of the Victorian Derby, he finished third in the final.
Then came his win in the Chariots at 4, plus he claimed the Queensland 4 yo Championship a Heat of the Breeders Crown unfortunately injury saw him scratched from the final.
Lanercost got back to the track as 5 year old to claim the Christmas Cup in his home state a race he also won a year later before his retirement to the breeding barn.
Anyone looking to purchase a yearling this weekend look no further than the yearlings offered by Montana Park at Brisbane’s APG sale which commences at 11am at Albion Park racetrack this Sunday.
