What a sensational Mount Gambier Cup meeting!

Nearly 4000 patrons attended Greenwald Paceway in Mount Gambier on the last Saturday in February to witness the 2016 Baxter Hire /UBET Mountain Gambier Pacing Gold Cup.

And not one of those patrons would have been disappointed the night had everything great action on the track one lucky person took home $1000 cash just for turning up, 51 people put over $20 each to be in the Punters Club which for the second year in a row had a payout, jumping castle and face paint for the kids and a $1000 pick 6.

The night started with exciting 3 year old Jumping Jolt (Village Jolt-Jamaka Run) coming from near last to win by 26 metres for Peter Medhurst and team Finnis.

Tenovus Cullen a 4 year son of Christian Cullen won back to back races at the track after scoring there at the last meeting.

Dancin With Elvis a 3 year old by Rocknroll Hanover in the Bec East yard looks to have a bright future after coming from last to claim race three.

The trot may have only had five runners but provided an exciting finish with Lombo  Scrutinizer  got up to claim Me And Kel  in the last couple of bounds.

The 2 year old also only had five runners with the Matthew Craven trained Whata Challenge a gelding by Falcon Steelers out of the In The Pocket mare Scarlett Finn, looks to have  a bright future.

The Cup was the next event and after a fair start former New Zealand pacer Smoken Pump Action  found the top after half a lap when last year’s winner Magical Bazz was happy to hand up and from that point the Cup was never in doubt.

Outsider Adams Express run home well to claim second with Magical Bazz holding third spot.

Smoken Pump Action trained by Matthew Craven has won six times from just 13 starts and looks to have future.

The other feature on the program was the Goodtime Lodge Oaks and it was a double to Jayson and Barry Finnis when Tell The Future lead all the way, by Little Brown Jug winner Tell All out of Jewel Of Destiny who is also the dam of Officianado.

Tell The Future is owned by her breeder Peter Medhurst has now won twice from six starts.

The final event went to former Kiwi Delight Brigade a eight year old by  Bettors Delight who had some 70 starts in New Zealand before joining Brad Hunt’s stable proved a bit too strong for Royal Jacquard.

Congratulations to the Mount Gambier club on a successful nights racing let’s hope there meeting on Easter Monday stands up.
