Dean Baring explains how the combination of a well liked doctor, a gun
driver and an APG filly means certain Harness Racing success.
John (The Doctor) Mammino has been a long-time supporter of Harness Racing
in the Sunshine State, but until Saturday night, when his star two-year-old
filly Bonnie Jujon took out the Qbred Breeders Classic Final, Doctor Mammino
had never owned a Group winner.
Purchased for $30,000 from the 2015 Brisbane APG sale ( The most under rated
and best valued sale in the country ) Bonnie Jujon was perfectly driven by
Bart Cockburn, and after sitting in the one out and one back position,
sailed down the outside in the home straight to beat stable mate Eleniark by
a head with Vintage Dream a further 2.5 metres away in third place.
Bonnie Jujon is former Inter dominion and Little Brown Jug winner Mr
Feelgood’s only two year old to enter the winners circle this season.
Doctor Mammino races his horses under Jujon name which is a tribute to his
wife Judy who passed away some four years ago. One of best in recent years
was General Jujon a Fake left gelding who won 26 races for the Doc and
$165,868 in prize money.
Bonnie Jujon may well be the best horse Doctor Mammino has owned the filly
has now had 7 starts for 2 wins and was placed in the APG Gold heats before
blowing the start in the final.
The filly is out Truly Famous a famous Forever mare, Bonnie Jujon is the
first live foal, the mare has a 2014 filly also by Mr Feelgood.
The colts and geldings Qbred Final was taken out by Maestro Bellini a son of
champion sire Bettors Delight.
Both the Qbred Breeders Classic winners will now target the Triad Series
next month.
