4The Terang Co-Op Pacing Cup night is an event for the whole community, created and crafted with that community.

That was how Diane O’Keeffe, racing manager of Terang Harness Racing Club, described her club’s showcase event, which takes centre stage on Saturday night.

While late nominee New Zealand jet Ohoka Punter and country cups king Im Corzin Terror will likely steal the headlines, the foundations for a great night have been laid by many hands.

“Terang Harness Racing Club has a long and proud history,” O’Keeffe said.

“It has a strong membership base, good leadership, hard working committee and staff and volunteers who strive hard to ensure everything is in order for the cup meeting.”

But, she said, the contributions also come from beyond the gates of Dalvui Raceway.

“We draw on our local community as suppliers and staffing, we like to give back to them as much as we can because they are the community who supports us and are extremely important to the club,” she said.

That support is reflected by the Terang Co-Op, with the local store not only sponsoring the showcase event but having a large number of guests who will attend Saturday night.

“Everybody pulls together to make this happen. It’s very much the harness racing community combined with the greater community,” O’Keeffe said.

And they will be entertained by quality fields, with the aforementioned star-studded pacers nominating for the $30,000 cup in addition to local hope The Culture, Jadahson and Star Chamber.

“We’ve got some good quality horses, drivers and trainers who will compete for the cup,” O’Keeffe said.

The 10-race card also takes in the $12,000 Barastoc Terang Trotters Cup and the Morsbearings Dalvui Dominator Final.

On-course entertainment starts about 6pm and includes a mechanical surfboard, South Coast Sports Car Club display, clowns, face painting, jumping castle, pony trots, live music, prizes, giveaways and full catering.
