Ray Wilson, hobby breeder of Standardbred’s is the perfect example of a person we need to keep in our industry.
Ray only breeds from 1 to 2 very good mares a year, he will openly admit a return on his money is the last thing on his mind, he just loves the sport and he has a burning interest to see the sport, he loves continue into the future.
Now, let’s take a step back for a minute and see where this love started.
Ray Wilson was a tennis pro who just happen to compete in the 1967 Wimbledon Championships in all three events, men’s singles, men’s Doubles and mixed doubles,
After his playing days he joined Harry Hopman in New York coaching juniors like John McEnroe, Vitas Gerulitis, and Peter Fleming who all became world champions
It was at this time he fell in love with harness racing and started taking small ownerships of good horses racing at the best tracks in the USA.
Ray has this colt below Lot 358 by Sportswriter and out of a very interesting Village Jasper mare who won over $40,000 herself, the mares first foal a Art Major Filly named Rosie O’Rourke won over $18,000 before she was lost (dec) to early in her career, her 2nd foal a gelding by Rock N Roll Heaven was undefeated from his 2 starts with winnings of $2,686.
I would like to thank all the small breeders like Ray and Harnessbred.com for the opportunity to have my say online, it really looks like you are
