The Warragul trots region has been strengthened by a uniting of members from the Warragul Harness Racing Club and the Warragul Light Harness Club.

Almost 250 years of hands-on industry knowhow has been added to the Warragul trots club as a result of a new committee being installed, the two local clubs grasping the opportunity to work closer together.

The new committee of the Warragul Harness Racing Club is made up of long-time, dedicated trots people, who understand many facets of the industry.

“Every person on the committee has an active role at the trials.  From mobile driver to starter, trial steward, trial secretary, in the canteen, the broadcaster, the tractor driver and the water truck driver … everyone pitches in,” new Warragul vice-president Jenni Lewis said.

Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) CEO David Martin congratulated committee members of both clubs for coming together.

“The Warragul clubs and community needed to come together to address issues that became more evident in recent months.  The Light Harness Club is financially very sound and has been well-managed by a loyal and experienced team of people, so we are confident these salt-of-the-earth harness racing people will get the Warragul Harness Racing Club back on track.  HRV remains firmly committed to harness racing in Warragul and as requested by the club, we increased the number of Sunday meetings in 2017/18 to four so the club could better engage the Warragul community,” Mr Martin said.

“Everyone now has a sense of being in this together, and we welcome new members who want to contribute to the future of harness racing in Warragul,” new Warragul president Greg Whitty said.
