After a successful  Melbourne APG sale, attention will turn to the Sydney leg of the APG sale series at the famous Newmarket Sales Yard on Sunday February 26.

Riverina Nursery have a strong draft bound for Newmarket. In their consignment, is a colt by first season sire, Pet Rock, out of a Badlands Hanover mare, Our Maid Marianne.

An early September foal, this colt is an athletic youngster, and will, no doubt, create a lot of interest from prospective buyers.

His sire, Pet Rock, started on 45 occasions over three seasons, and totted up 16 wins and 18 minor placings. A winner in 1:52.6 as a two-year-old, Pet Rock banked $934,518 at three, racing against top horses such as A Rocknroll Dance, Bolt The Duer, Sweet Lou and Thinking Out Loud.

Pet Rock won the Art Rooney at Yonkers in a stakes and track record of 1:51, and the Windy City Pace at Maywood Park in 1:51.8. As a four-year-old, Pet Rock really came into his own, netting $972,820 from six wins and five placings in 18 appearances. He took his record of 1:47 at four years, winning the $471,800 William Haughton Memorial at The Meadowlands, with a 26.6 seconds closing quarter.

He established world records on a half-mile track, winning the Winbak Farm Pace at Delaware in 1:48.2 and a five-eighths track capturing the Jim Ewart Memorial at Scioto Downs in 1:47.4.

This colt’s dam, Our Maid Marianne, was an exciting two-year-old, capturing the Group 1 Vicbred Final. She is a half-sister to Safari and the Canberra Derby winner, Astronaut.

Yirribee’s draft for Sydney also include lot 212, a filly by Sportswriter out of a daughter of champion mare, Tailamade Lombo called Prestigious Lombo. This is her first foal.

Sportswriter currently sits in the top 20 list of sires for this season and top 10 on the 2 & 3YO Sires List.

Prestigious Lombo started just four times before retiring to the breeding barn. She is half-sister to Aussie Made Lombo a dual Group 1 winner at two, and also Yakuza, who won the Hobart and Brighton Cups, and exciting three-year-old, Alpine Stride.

Lot 216 is a bay colt by Yirribee’s resident sire and Little Brown Jug winner, Million Dollar Cam, out of the stud book gem, Promise.

Promise is the dam of 9 winners from 10 foals to race, including the winner of the Australian Gold and Tasmanian Derby, both at Group 1 level, Sir Galvinator. Sir Galvinator was the  Australian 3YO of his year.

Promise is also the grand dam of Major Bronski, $200.000 winner, Brigadier Bronski who captured the Group 2 Queensland QBred Final.

This colt is from the family of former New Zealand Derby winner Holly Hal.
