The biggest punter of the week was not chasing a big return but a very safe one when they placed a bet of $7,000 on Beautide to win at Menangle last Friday afternoon. The dual Inter Dominion winner scorched over the 2300 metres and won as he liked, netting the punter a $1,400 profit.
Other large winning bets (stake)
- $3,000 @ $1.45 Ameretto – Menangle March 11
- $3,000 @ $1.60 Its Inevitable – Bathurst March 9
- $3,000 @ $1.70 Dillon – Bathurst March 9
One punter expected the Kerryann Turner trained Visualise to return to the winners list at Menangle at the same meeting. They placed a wager of $2,000 on, at the odds of $4.80 and picked up a return of $9,600 when it saluted.
Other large winning bets (return)
- $100 @ $71.00 Always A Warrior – Newcastle March 12
- $2,500 @ $3.20 My Willow – Menangle March 11
- $300 @ $14.00 Spare Me Days – Young March 12
Our Castanea was well supported to win at Bathurst on March 9 but when it broke it never gave its backers a hope. A punter who placed $5,000 at the odds of $1.90 was forced to watch it finish more than 70 metres behind winner Diamond Master.
Other large losing bets (stake)
- $3,500 @ $6.00 Ultimate Courage – Newcastle March 12 (6th)
- $3,000 @ $2.20 Change Of Mind – Menangle March 11 (2nd)
- $2,800 @ $2.80 Mister Jay Cee – Menangle March 11 (4th)
While most punters were cheering the victory of Match In Heaven in the Young Derby as the favourite scored impressively, the punter who placed $2,500 on Charlaval at $5.00 was understandably not as buoyant. With a potential return of $12,500 on the line, Charlaval finished second.
Other large losing bets (potential return)
- $2,500 @ $4.60 Midnight Scribe – Young March 12 (8th)
- $2,500 @ $5.50 Im Captain Morgan – Bathurst March 9 (3rd)
- $500 @ $14.00 Sheeza Perfect Ten – Penrith March 10 (retired)
