The Bathurst Gold Crown carnival is in full swing with the fillies qualifying for the Gold Tiara on Thursday night and the two year old colts and geldings get their opportunity this Saturday night. Greg Hayes from HRNSW has had a long look at the form for the meeting and has come up with the following selections.
Greg’s best bet is appearing in race five – the first leg of the quaddie. Betabcool ran a gallant second behind Spare Me Days last week in the Young Cup and was able to beat home Australia’s best mare Frith. She has been plagued by poor draws of late and finally comes up with barrier one which should see her race in a forward position. With the services of Amanda Turnbull, Betabcool looks a very strong chance.
The next best according to Greg is the Peter Trevor-Jones trained Crackerjack Jo in race one. His one dimensional racing pattern does tend to see him charging home at the end of his races but from the second row draw he may be able to settle a little closer than normal. If the tempo is quicker than average, expect a strong finishing burst from Crackerjack Jo.
