bb1 - wayne hillMonday after Christmas around Australia with a scattering of meetings here and there Goulburn (NSW), Ararat (Vic),Parkes (NSW), Wagin (WA) and Victor Harbour a sleepy holiday town 80 Kilometres from Adelaide situated on the Fleurieu Peninsular.

You would thing this old news hound would have little to write about from any of these tracks? WRONG!

At Victor Harbour one of South Australia’s leading drivers Wayne Hill made the public holiday of Proclamation Day his own.

Hill drove 6 winners on the 7 event program to equal the Australian record which is held by a number of drivers including Gavin Lang, Gary Hall junior ,Kerryn Manning, David Harding and Geoff Webster who have driven 6 winners on the program.

Hill’s day started with victory on the Jill Nielson trained Windburnt (a 5 year old mare  by Mach three)  which found the top and was never headed,

Race two and Hill was on board Machtwister a 7 year old by Mach Three, who won a claimer last start at Globe Derby and despite doing some work early was too strong for the open class pacers.

Queen OfSharkz a 3 year old filly was impressive in bring up Hill’s third leg.

As the name suggests this filly is by Four Stazzz Shark the sire of Inter-dominion winner Lennytheshark and star mare Frith.

Queen OfSharkz is trained at Kadina by Tyson Linke. It was her first run as a 3 year old and her first since finishing down the track in the BOTRA Golden Nursery.

Improved claimer Silver Ranger a 10 year old son of Julius Caesar won the claimer to make it 4 from 4 for Hill.

7 year old mare Danamite Lass (by Art Major) took advantage of a first class drive by Hill, sitting behind the leader and peeling out at the top of home straight to score narrowly and bring up win number 5 for Hill.

Race 6 and not many on course believed that Hill could drive another winner but in a driving finish Wayne Hill got the best out of consistent pacer Wills, to win by a short half head, race caller Jim Jacques believed Wills had got beat.

Wills a 5 year old son of underrated stallion Ifihadyourluck, a Cam luck stallion who has sired 78 individual winners from just 119 starters. Wills has now won eight races.

Hill’s dream of driving the card came unstuck when favourite Franco Talon had to do too much work and faded to finish down the track in the final event but for Hill it was a great day out- equalling the Australian record of 6 winners on a program.
