bb2The traps of frozen and imported semen

This may surprise some people, but there are several breeders who have asked the question with all the frozen semen now available on our shore what if?

How does frozen semen and even imported semen from our neighbours in New Zealand affect our state based incentive schemes such as QBred, VicBredetc?

Well in layman’s terms if a mare is inseminated in say- Victoria with either frozen or imported semen then either sold or shipped to for example New South Wales where she foals down, the resulting foal is not eligible for either Vicbred or New South Wales Blue scheme, the resulting foal is not eligible for any state based scheme at all.

Only if the mare foals down in the same state she is inseminate is the resulting foal eligible for that states scheme.

So breeders beware! And if you’re in the market of buying a mare in foal to a stallion via frozen or imported semen make sure she doesn’t cross the border of the state she was inseminated in.
