2New ‘Silver’ races will be added to the 2016 Breeders Crown series, replacing Consolation races, and repechages will be deleted, Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) announced this week.

The move to ‘Silver’ races rather than Consolation races will create consistency among Futurity brands following recent changes to the Vicbred Super Series.

From this year the two Silver Trot races will be worth $20,000 – up from last year’s Consolation purses of $10,000 – and the four Silver Pace races will be worth $30,000 – up from last year’s $20,000 Consolation purses.

“Participation figures in the Breeders Crown have rendered the repechages superfluous to needs. Deleting the repechages enables the series to be compacted by one week and frees up valuable funds to bolster other stages of the series,” HRV General Manager – Operations Vaughn Lynch said.

“The HRV Programming and Futurities Committee is always looking at ways to enhance the Breeders Crown, which we believe is Australasia’s most prestigious futurity series.”
