Firebby, the QLD filly trained by Christine Monte was all set to smash the field this coming Tuesday at Menangle, (along with her life time mark of 1:54.1 that she set at Albion Park on the 6th of December last year). That was until her barrier draw of 11 came out today!
This very fast, lightly raced and small framed mare has career earnings north of $45k from her 23 starts thus far. In every one of those six wins she lead for the whole trip. In other races where Firebby has not gone forward early, she has struggled to settle and come home with the kind of blistering speed that the connections know she has.
Firebby the first foal of Rebby NZ (Artiscape mare) comes from the very strong N91 Family. They are the descendants of the 5th dam Tiawana, who has a very impressive breeding record and this line continues to produce very fast horses.
While Firebby will need a serious amount of luck to have any chance now, don’t rule her in future races if the inside draw on the front line comes her way. Although she is not a big mare she has a huge ticker and hates horses trying to cross her.
