3It’s the biggest disappointment we’ve had in harness racing…

That’s how Nathan Jack described the sad news of promising youngster Zee Dana succumbing to a snake bite this morning.

Regarded as one of the most promising three-year-olds in the country, Zee Dana was trained by Jack’s partner, Amanda Turnbull.

“He was out spelling and we got a call telling us the vet was on the way and he was in pretty bad shape,” Jack said. “The vet did everything possible, but his condition deteriorated pretty quickly.

“It’s the biggest disappointment we’ve had in harness racing and is pretty hard to take as he was certainly well above average.”

A classy son of Tintin In America, Zee Dana won six of his 13 starts, with five placings also to his credit.

His victories included a New South Wales Derby heat in a record 1:45.6 over 2400 metres two starts ago before finishing third in the Final a week later.

“He did a top job in Sydney for the Derby, so we gave him a spell with the view of having him ready for the Breeders’ Crown,” Jack explained. “He certainly had plenty of upside and would have continued to improve with racing.”
