With the South Australia harness racing industry in turmoil after HRSA announced a 5% levy on stakes money before prize money is distributed, the industry has demanded a emergency meeting which will be held at Globe Derby on Sunday at 2pm.
The meeting will be facilitated by SA BOTRA who in a letter today to HRSA, BOTRA has invited HRSA President Mark Carey and CEO John Lewis to attend to hear concerns from the participates.
Noise of a strike by owners & trainers has made HRSA retract their threat to impose the levy at least till after the HRSA Board meeting on October 28.
The meeting on Sunday hopefully will head off any threat to take strike action, and all allow participates the chance to put forward ideas to allow harness racing to continue at headquarters and deal with any other issue that the floor sees worth raising.
Issue like drivers fees, cost of trialling horses, HRSA plans for Gawler and many others.
BOTRA’s new president David Jolly has been on the front foot. pulling this meeting together at short notice/ Mr Jolly only returned from a short holiday on the Gold Coast on Wednesday must have wondering what he a stepped into but should be congratulated for his and his committee’s foresight.
