2Ray Holberton stables have had a purple patch of form of late. Over the weekend he took 7 of his team to the races and came away with two winners, three second placings and two fourth placings.

The weekend started on Friday night at Globe Derby with The Storm Chief (by Chief Marty) leading till the shadows of the winning post, only to record his seventh second placing in a row when grabbed by the Aaron Brown trained, Henley Franco. Holberton then went one better with Linvel Ann in the final race of the program.

Linvel Ann appreciated the drop back from the Southern Cross series, where she finished a creditable fourth behind star fillies Lovelist, Starburst Girl and Whats Emma Got. The filly found the lead for driver Mark Webster, and the result was never in doubt. She ran home in 29.8 and 29.4, scoring untouched by 5.8 metres from Loanshark and Solanum Dulcamara.Holberton’s other runner, Jeremes Bonus, was back in fourth place.

On Saturday nights, BOTRA Battlers, Holberton won the Sam & Pauline Spirious Pace with consistent mare Komaru. She’s won her seventh race of the season with Dani Hill in the cart.

Dani’s brother Wayne, drove Shark Bonus which chased home, Rockfromcork in the SA BOTRA 2yo pace. Em Vee En (driven by Dani Hill) had its first race start and finished fourth in the same event.

On Monday, at headquarters, 3yo Ace To Play finished a close second to Farasthe Eyecansee – beaten by just a head.

He has trained 21 winners for the 2014/15 season.  He has had 52 placings in South Australia, plus severval placing at Milduraincluding Helens Bonus second in a heat of the Vicbred.

Ssince taking out his trainers licence in 1984/85, he has trained 329 winners.

Ray Holberton is a hard worker for South Australian Harness Racing. He is President of SA BOTRA and also on the Board of Management for the South Australian Harness Racing Club, which runs Globe Derby.
