NEW South Wales filly Marika Springfield has a prime opportunity to make a clean sweep of the Australian Pacing Gold Melbourne Autumn Sale series.
Winner of her heat in Ballarat last week, Marika Springfield is engaged in Saturday night’s Final at Tabcorp Park Melton.
To connections’ delight the two-year-old has drawn to find the front from barrier three.
Pleased with the youngster’s progress, trainer Darren Reay is confident Marika Springfield can capture the Group Two.
“From day one she has just done everything quite easily,” Reay said. “She is a typical Modern Art sired horse in that she is clean gaited.
“I was very happy with her run in the heat and she’s been doing well since the run.
“She stayed down there with one of her owners at Greg Sugars’ place and their happy with the way she is going.
“The draw certainly gives her the chance of taking out the Final.”
Selecting Shez All Style as the main danger, Reay expects Amalfi Coast to play a role in the finish.
Third in their qualifier, Shez All Style will begin from barrier two, with Amalfi Coast drawn gate five.
Although unplaced in the heat Amalfi Coast is the $2.50 TAB Fixed Odds favourite, with Marika Springfield second elect at $2.80.
Shez All Style is rated as a $5.50 shot.
“Shez All Style caught my eye in the heat when she finished well for third,” Reay said. “That was her debut and she is sure to benefit from the run and the draw.
“Amalfi Coast wasn’t on his best behaviour, but there seems to be an opinion of him so he has to be respected.”
