Co-trainers Greg and Skye Bonds’ New Zealand import Our Jimmy Johnstone proved his recovery powers when running on powerfully to win tonight’s WAHAROA Walton United RFC Pace (2130m).

Greg Bond revealed the gelding had sustained a leg fracture early this season.

Our Jimmy Johnston ($3.70) beat stablemateIma Connoisseur ($4.30), who set the pace tonight, by 5.9m and rated 1:55.7. Third placegetter Rocky Marciano ($16) was 2.3m away.

“We’re aiming Our Jimmy Johnstone for a belated Inter Dominion Championship bid,” Greg Bond said. “He was to have run in Inters heats late last year.

“But another horse kicked him. He was found to have a leg fracture and needed lengthy rest while recuperating.

“Tonight, he’s won his first race in six starts since returning. We dropped him back in class tonight, but he will now return to open company.

“He’ll soon have a short break, before beginning an Inters preparation.”
