Bettor Be Oscar, who was left an orphan when his mother Copper Beach Girl died a day or two after he was foaled on November 29, 2015, survived when he was bottle fed and has developed into an excellent performer.

Now a four-year-old trained and driven by Aiden de Campo, Bettor Be Oscar, was called Oscar The Orphan by his breeder Mike Howie and the Howie family has thoroughly enjoyed his deeds on the track which have produced 13 wins and 22 placings from 49 starts for earnings of $114,034.

Bettor Be Oscar is the second and last foal out of Copper Beach Girl, who was prepared by de Campo’s father Andrew and was retired to stud after racing 84 times for 14 wins, 24 placings and $156,851 in prizemoney.

Ever since his debut, when as a two-year-old he won by a head from Gee Jay Kay at Gloucester Park on March 13, 2018, Bettor Be Oscar has been a reliable and consistent performer.

He has excellent prospects of notching his 14TH victory when he contests the 2130m Vale Barry Hayes Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night from the coveted No. 1 barrier.

“He’s been racing very well without much luck,” de Campo said. “He’s got the barrier draw this week and he’s got good gate speed. I’m looking to lead and he should give a good showing. Livura, on his back, looks the main danger and Mr Kiwi is going well.

“He has been crying out for a barrier draw — and he’s got it this week, and he worked well this (Tuesday) morning. Last week from barrier six he missed a hole early and then went back (before finishing strongly from ninth at the bell to be second to Mighty Santana).

“It’s not really his go, coming wide and sprinting home; he’s more of a grinder. Barrier one is really going to help him, and he should go pretty good, providing he can hold the front, which I think he should.”

Gary Hall jnr has given punters a good lead by choosing to drive Mr Kiwi from barrier four in preference to smart four-year-old Justin Prentice-trained mare Dracarys, who will be handled by Cody Wallrodt from out wide at barrier eight.
