My Sunday lunch will be put on hold this weekend (wouldn’t  hurt me to miss a meal at the moment) with the running of the $1,000,000 Pepsi North American Cup – Final for 3 year old’s, 12:40 the race starts our time.

Many people believe certain races have the potential to put a 3 year entire on the map or on his way to be a successful stallion after his racing career, this would be one such race in my mind.

When l scroll down the past winners list, it’s like the ‘Who’s Who’ of Stallions.

Jake Lobell was a magnificent horse back in his day both on the track and at stud. He was from one of the strongest sire lines on the planet, sadly his branch or descendants look like they are cooked and the odds now are that his line is over. He won a total of $2,231,402 and was a real favourite of many.

With offspring  earnings north of $140 million, Cams Card Shark hardly needs any introduction down here. He is notably the sire of Bettors Delight, Roll With Joe, Four Starzzz Shark, Village Jolt,  Million Dollar Cam and Shadyshark Hanover just to name a few. Cams Card Shark was born back in 1991 ( I still had hair back then ) and won $2,498,204 on the track. While his branch of the U22 family is good, it’s far from the best in NA and backs up the theory that the great ones can come from anywhere. Love the clean legs on display in the photo.

Please see the press release from August 2011  on the announcement that Rocknroll Hanover was coming to Australia.

A magnificent looking stallion standing 16 hands, Rocknroll Hanover is by All-Age Pacer of the Year, Western Ideal , the sire of 24 in 1:50 and 270 in 1:55 with progeny earnings of nearly $64 (now north of 110 ) million. Rocknroll’s dam, Rich N Elegant  p,2, 1:57.2; 3,1:56.4 ($96,244) by Direct Scooter is considered to be one of the best producing mares in history and has been named The Top Pacing Broodmare of All Time by earnings. Rich N Elegant is the dam of eight winners with combined earnings of over $7.6 million.

David James, President of Empire Stallions said, “We are very pleased to include Rocknroll Hanover in our outstanding stallion line-up. He is an extremely fertile horse, the perfect outcross for southern hemisphere mares and promises to bring a new siring dimension to the industry.”

Bottom line is, David was right and unfortunately it was a terrible loss when he passed away back in March of 2014.

Huntsville, the son of Somebeachsomewhere who’s already won $801,263, could start as a favourite. With two full brothers who have already won $438,669 and $372,685, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see this fella down here in the years to come. Check out his pedigree below.
