While the focus this weekend will be on the Sydney with the APG sale Saturday and Super Sunday featuring the Miracle Mile at Menangle, a small but well run club in the south east corner of South Australia will come alive when Mount Gambier hosts their Cup weekend.

The action starts Friday night with the annual Dinner &Calcutta with guest speaker John O’Connor former president of the Mount Gambier Jockey Club, he was also Clerk of the Course at the Harness Racing Club for 22 years.

Saturday night the action on course will feature the $12,000 Baxter Hire/ UBET Mount Gambier Cup a standing start event over 2590 metres for horses graded C1 to C5 who competed in the heats on February 12.

The Barry Finnis trained pair Officianado (by Arts Official out of the Live Or Die mare Jewel Of Destiny) and Crowning Glory (Courage Under Fire/ Crown Of Thorns a Falcon Steelster mare) have drawn spots 1 and 2 while promising 4 year old entire Looksofalegend a son of Bettors Delight has the job ahead drawn outside of the 10 metre line.

The club are one of the most progressive clubs in South Australia they fundraiser to add extra prize money to their 10 meetings a year.

On Saturday they will also have a Lucky Gate Prize worth $1000 one lucky patron will go home happy and if you can pick the last 6 winners then you have a chance to win $1000 as well. The club will once again run a punters club from race 2 onwards for just $20 you can share in hopefully some nice returns.

The pony trots will also be on the card with a pony Monte the feature as well as jumping castle for the little ones.
