TO SAY Australia’s reinswomen are doing a tremendous job for charity would be a gross understatement.
A month into the Women’s Cancer Foundation – Ovarian Institute Teal Pants campaign the industry’s leading ladies have registered more than 200 wins!
The fundraiser began on February 1 and will continue until March 11, with the tally expected to eclipse $100,000 with ease.
Funds are raised via each state’s governing bodies, along with corporate sponsors, which are donating a set amount per win.
As of this morning, the bankroll is sitting just shy of $80,000 – which does not include additional money from personal sponsors. With personal sponsors added, the amount is closer to $90,000!
Victorian horsewoman Laura Crossland had the honour of completing the double century when she partnered Our Prima Regal – appropriately a mare – to an eye-catching win at Shepparton last night.
Crossland, who also trains the daughter of Stonebridge Regal, is excited to bring up the milestone.
“Wow, I had no idea we’d got that many wins on the board,” Crossland said. “Obviously it’s a massive team effort, but to get the 200th win is quite an honour.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to wear the teal pants for a few years now and am just rapt with every winner I can get.
“I know every reinswoman will be giving it a good crack, but it would be amazing if we can get to 300 before the campaign finishes.”
