HRSA are delighted to announce the establishment of a new scholarship scheme to reward, retain and enhance the involvement of young people in harness racing in South Australia.

The scholarships will be provided by HRSA to young people seeking to establish and consolidate a career in harness racing. Successful applicants will receive a scholarship for a period of one year period and will receive the following benefits and entitlements:

  • formal placement with a leading interstate or New Zealand racing stable to be trained and briefed on industry ‘best practice’ and models for training and /or driving;
  • education and training mentoring including possible support with coaching and specific racing instruction, biomechanics and sports psychology;
  • financial contribution towards the cost of purchasing or leasing horses (trainers);
  • establishment of a website and social media to promote their services including new owners and syndication opportunities;
  • special race silks to promote the scholarship scheme; and
  • official HRSA Scholarship Uniform to be worn at all races meetings in South Australia and for official duties.Up to three scholarships annually will be awarded by HRSA – they will be granted for a 12 month period and each scholarship is valued at $8,000. The HRSA Scholarship Scheme will commence in July 2017 and more information including the application process will be detailed in the coming months.

    This commitment by HRSA is a clear step forward in recognising the importance of young people in the harness racing industry in South Australia.
