Ricky Duggan picked up a lucky last-minute drive onthe JR MINTgelding Little Jethro in the first race at Launceston on Friday night to pull one win back on premiership leader Mark Yole.
The win was Duggan’s 56th for the season and took him to within 10 wins of Yole who will miss both this weekend’s meetings due to suspension.
Duggan gave Little Jethro a soft run behind the leader and, after getting clear on the home turn, the $7.20 second favourite sprinted away to win easily.
Odds-on favourite Bisping had to do some work after breaking in running and missed a place.
Little Jethro’s sire JR MINT has sired 23 individual winners from 52 life time starters, in 2015/16 he has had 9 winners who have won 19 races the best being Do It For Dave.
His best mare El Jays Magic is now in the stables of James Rattray in New South Wales and makes her long awaited return to the track at Menangle this weekend.
