In what could be one of the most significant announcements in the breeding industry in Australian Harness Racing in years, it has been confirmed today to harnessbred.com that Bob & Marilyn Fowler, the owners of Allwood Stud, have finally been able to secure the Mach Three son they have been chasing for years.
Fly Like An Eagle, winner of $756,178, along with his great sire Mach Three (who just recently passed away) were both under the ownership of the Muscara Group of North America. The Fowlers have been working diligently at trying to identify a young stallion, with Group 1 success, and the right blood that can add some serious value to our breeding program in this country. With talk of the horse being sent to North America and meaning he would have be lost to us forever, they made a final and successful bid for Fly Like An Eagle.
Fly Like An Eagle’s first 2 seasons at stud didn’t yield the number of mares that many good judges had expected. However, the reason for this (which had nothing to do with the stallion himself) has now been put to bed with the Fowlers taking over ownership. Now that this truly striking horse, who will be under the care of his very excited new Australian owners, will finally get his chance to serve north of 100 mares in this coming season.
Fly Like An Eagle was an extremely talented young star of the track, he is a four time Group One winner, and defeated the best pacers of his time including Christen Me, Smolda, Sushi Sushi, and Sir Lincoln. He still holds the New Zealand record as the fastest two year old over 1700 metres with a mile rate of 1:55.9
Please don’t forget that sensational win in the 2012 Breeders Crown Final, Harness Jewels and throw in a New Zealand Derby, crowned New Zealand 2yo of the year, as you can see, he is one serious fast, tough horse.
The fact he is out of a Falcon Seelster mare (who brings the blood of Overtrick, Adios Butler, Nibble Hanover, Volomite ) will have breeders lining up for a booking with their top mares this year.
However, for me the real interest is the strength of these 3 main factors listed below:
- Fly like An Eagle’s sire and world famous father is Mach Three, a proven sire of sires and his line is almost the hottest on the planet right now. Fly Like An Eagle has been gifted with physical attributes very few horse ever get
- Fly Like An Eagle’s dam line is exceptional, with horses like Changeover, who still has the highest career earnings ($2,426,765 ) of any entire to be born and raced in New Zealand. Plus the mighty Chokin winner of $1,801,684
- Fly Like An Eagle, unlike so many Direct Scooter line stallions is blessed with fertility not seen in this line for years
Announcements about pricing and shipping will come in time, however, l do expect this son of a gun, to really make his mark this season under the care of Allwood Stud.
