I would like to take this opportunity to wish all loyal Harnessbred followers of my weekly articles including those who view them through Facebook, compliments of the festive season.
I thoroughly appreciate the comments, observations and additional contributions regarding my articles that appear on the Facebook pages, many of them adding to my knowledge especially of Australian harness racing history. Whilst dealing mainly with NZ harness racing stories, I do endeavour to incorporate an Australian element as often as possible together with incorporating North American and occasionally European content.
Special thanks go to my wife Catharine for her proof reading prowess especially in correcting my grammatical blemishes. To Dean Baring, my full appreciation for the opportunity to provide you our readers with a variety of articles covering a range of harness racing history, recent tours, award functions and more.
In the four and a half years that I have been contributing regular weekly articles to Harnessbred (around 250 articles), I have attempted to provide readers with a range of historical stories together with mainly topical NZ based issues in my column. It is especially enjoyable delving back into the past to bring you insights into the history of harness racing in Australasia.
What can you expect next year in 2020 (current planned articles to be written) : series of articles on NZ Broodmare Centurions; series on prominent NZ Trotting Broodmares; series on racetracks of the world; 100 years of racing at Waterlea Raceway (Blenheim) and Pukekura Park (New Plymouth); seventy five years of Westport TC racing at Patterson Park plus regular features such as NZ Awards; Addington Harness Hall of Fame inductees; a NZ Cup article; NZ Broodmares of Year/Excellence Award winners and a series on past Sydney Pacers Interdominions; previews of possible tours to 2020 Sydney Interdominions and 2021 World Drivers Champs plus review of 2020 ID’s in Sydney and anything else that might appear in my regular weekly column.
Meanwhile like many of you, I’ll be taking a brief break from writing over the festive season. However contributions will continue with articles early in the New Year.
All the best for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Peter Craig
