which highlighted the trend of people looking back in time for guidance and evidence to support their theories or programs. What l didn’t do, was look at the individuals who have broken new ground and since been extremely successful.
Less than 200 horses ever bred on Australian / New Zealand soil have earnt north of $570,000 on the track, and breeders in this elite bracket are few and far between. Gary Crocker, through Walk Proud Pty Ltd from South Australia is one such breeder on this exclusive list, however it’s his ability to back his own judgement with un-tested breeding’s that has motivated me to write this piece.
When Gary joined his mare Aratusa Lass a D M Dilinger he was working on his own much deeper theory that took a very detailed look back into the pedigree to gain the confidence he was on the right track. At the time he joined his D M Dilinger mare to Art Major and whilst this cross hadn’t done a thing, we all now know the results with this cross being a smash hit producing Major Crocker ($570,057) and Restrepo ($527,118).
Now, Gary is at it again. He has always been a keen follower of the Art Major / Falcon Seelster cross that’s been around for some time and its produced the $2,000,000 plus earner in Art Official. However he sees a strong genetic alignment when putting Falcon Seelster back over Art Major mares which Gary has now done with his group 1 winning mare Phyl Crocker.

This is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, and l for one, are not going to question this man’s judgement. He has already proven his ability to get it right without the help of others. Whoever is the lucky new owner of this filly Sunday afternoon, will have the backing and support of one of South Australia’s best breeders.
