A golden night awaits on Friday when Cranbourne will saturate the thirsts of horse racing fans with a state first.
The $80,000 Decron Cranbourne Gold Cup (pacing) will light up Cranbourne Racing Complex just 15 minutes after the $150,000 TAB Cranbourne Cup (gallops), which club racing manager Cameron Gallagher said promised to be a night to remember.
“It is the first time there have been dual cups and, as far as I’m aware, it’s the first time a thoroughbred country cup has been run at night,” Mr Gallagher said.
“Sales are going well and there is a lot of talk since it was announced. There is a bit of a buzz about it and we’re expecting a good crowd.”
The quality racing will come thick and fast, offering much of the excitement of the club’s successful mixed codes night but with the added bonus of top class racing for big cash.
“The tri codes racing is increasing every year and with both cups on as well as the $50,000 Aldebaran Park Knight Pistol and the $80,000 Apache Cat Classic it’s a really good program, with good fields across the board.”
And it’s also a prime occasion for some Friday night fun with friends and family.
“We’ve got dodgem cars, pony rides, animals of Oz, Kelly Sports and jumping castles,” Mr Gallagher said.
“There will also be live music and roving entertainers as well as the double-seater sulky ride, featuring Daniel Harford, Billy Brownless Jaimee Rogers and Mick Price.”
The night will feature 16 races, eight from each code, with racing from 6.10pm to 10.30pm.
