Veteran West Australian driver Colin Brown travelled to Bunbury on Tuesday night as he has done on hundreds of occasions previously in his 39 year career as a reinsman.
In race two Brown steered the Greg and Skye Bond trained Jumbo Jet to victory at the odds of $51 it was Brown’s 2800 th winner of his career. 369 of those winners have been for the powerful Bond stable.
Brown started his career with the late Jim (Jimmy the Jet) Schrader and like most WA drivers was a product of their reinsman school.
He drove his first winner on October 9 1976 on board a Schrader trained pacer called Go To It at York in West Australia’s Avon Valley, York was a small 667 metre track, that now hold their meetings at neighbouring Northam.
Brown’s achievement is amazing when you consider only Chris Lewis(4803) has driven more winners in the West than Brown.
Brown has never won a West Australian drivers premiership he has however been runner up three times to Lewis, Fred Kersley, and Trevor Warwick, however he has driven over 100 winners on eleven occasions.
Brown is taking more of a back seat role at Bond stables these days allowing Ryan Warwick to be the stables number one driver but us here at HarnessBred.com are sure he will remember Inters night at Bunbury on December 1 2015 for many years to come.
