BB1Colbalt saga never seems to end with two NSW trainers being stood down last week Andrew Cassell and Geoffrey Webber have been stood down until a hearing next Monday.

Postive tests were taken from the Cassell-trained Poppy Cee after its win at Parkes on September 6, 2015 and the Webber-trained Blissfull Solaire after its run at Penrith on September 3, 2015.

Now South Australian horseman Pat Carbone has had his trainer’s licence suspended under Australian Harness Racing Rule 183.

The governing body took the action after receiving a report from Racing Analytical Services Ltd that Cobalt above the threshold was detected in a pre race urine sample taken from The Octagon at Globe Derby on October 3, 2015.

The ‘B’ sample has been confirmed by the Racing Science Centre in Queensland.

Prior to invoking Rule 183 stewards considered all available evidence including:

  • that two Certificates have been issued by approved drug testing laboratories confirming Cobalt has been detected above the threshold
  • the level of the readings relative to the threshold
  • the nature of the prohibited substance
  • the absolute nature of prohibited substance offences
  • the likely penalty if a prohibited substance offence is proven
  • the personal circumstances of Pat Carbone
  • that a Stewards inquiry can proceed and conclude in a timely manner
  • Carbone and owner Peter Biddell, who transported and was responsible for The Octagon will be required to attend an inquiry Tuesday, November 24, 2015.

Carbone was seriously injured in a race fall a few months before hence the owner was responsible for transport of the horse on race day.
