Tasmanian glamour pacer Ryley Major will forgot the $30,000 Globe Derby Final at Launceston next week, instead the Rohan Hiller trained colt will travel to Melbourne to contest the heats of the VicBred 3 year old series.
Ryley Major began his career as a two-year-old by winning the Tasmanian Yearling Sale Classic in Launceston but then finished third in four feature races before winning at the last start as a juvenile.
The son of Art Major thus far is unbeaten in six starts including the Tasmanian Derby and the 3YO Tasmanian Yearling Sale Classic in mid-April.
He had little trouble is overcoming his rivals in the Globe Derby Prelude, but he will bypass the Final, which he looked to have a mortgage on , to try to qualify for the $115,000 Vicbred Final at Melton on July 2.
But first he must contest the heats at Kilmore this Thursday June 16 then if successful the semi-finals at Melton on June 24 before the big dance on July 2.
Ryley Major is the first foal of Oaks winner ShezRyleymak (Totally Western-Rosary-Ticket To Heaven), ShezRyleymakalso won the 2yo fillies VicBred Final and was runner up at 3 also placed in NSW Oaks that year.
When Ryley Major won the Tasmanian Derby this season ShezRyleymakbecame the first local Oaks winner to produce the Derby winner.
