Bettors Fire (number 8 – Kyle Harper) is too good for his rivals in the Westral August Cup MS Pace at Gloucester Park last night.

As we countdown to the TABTouch Perth Inter dominions  we take a look at some of the live chances over the next couple of weeks. Today we look at local hope Bettors Fire.

Bred in New Zealand Bettors Fire as the name suggests is by Bettors Delight out of a Sands A Flyin mare Sparks A Flyin, herself fast becoming a broodmare gem, aross the ditch- she is the dam of 6 foals of racing age 5 have raced and all are winners.
Bettors Fire raced 30 times in the shaky isles under the care of Cran Dalgety for 11 wins and 7 placings before being sold to Perth Bloodstock Agent Frank Ranaldi in 2013.

He landed at young trainers Kyle Harper’s stables and was given just three weeks off to recover from the trip before Harper set the then 5yo a couple of easy tasks winning low grade races at his first five starts before stepping the gelding up to open company. He claimed the Navy Cup and Mount Eden Mile in November of 2013 before going on to claim the first of his Bunbury Cups in December of that same year.

His performance in the Fremantle Cup in January 2014 when beaten a head by super star ImVictorious proved to any doubters Bettors Fire was the real deal. After a good performance in the WA Pacing Cup in which he finished fifth after doing a power of work, Harper sent his stable star to the paddock for a well earnt rest.

In his second preparation Bettors Delight claimed the Parliamentary Cup and his second Bunbury Cups Harper was disappointed with his run in this year’s Fremantle Cup but puts his substandard run down to a virus which also affected his performance in the WA Pacing Cup.

He returned in July this year and found form after a couple of runs taking out the August Cup a race Harpers father Lindsay was successful in on four occasions. Bettors Fire came from last to beat a good field rating 1;56.2.

Bettors Fire has had three trials since his last start Harper was very pleased with his most recent effort last Sunday “he (Bettors Fire) went enormous he is cherry ripe for his return to the track” Harper said.

“He is a genuine racehorse-he can lead, sit and sprint or do work in a race” Harper added. “But you need that against good horses he will meet in the Inters” he went on to say.

At just 24 years of age Kyle Harper has a real live chance at 15 to 1 in the market Bettors Fire maybe be 18 in the orders of rankings but if he gets through to the final and draws a good gate he will give them all something to catch.
