AUSTRALIAN CLASSIC WINNER PRODUCING MARES

This is the seventh of an occasional series of articles reviewing multiple classic producing broodmares with five or more offspring in results information as shown on the Classic Families (CF) database. A number of these mares won classic races, became the dams of classic winners/progeny and contributed to the genetic inheritance of numerous outstanding performers.

Sire Gay Reveler was reviewed in the sixth Australian Classic Winner Producing Mares article concerning Bernies Sister. Briefly, he stood at stud in NZ and Australia leaving 233 winners including classic winner’s trotters Gay Vivienne and Court Jester together with pacers High Power, La Jose, Lynmont, Moon Reveler. Gay Reveler was broodmare sire of 478 winners including classic winners Classic Garry (leading sire), Double Cash, Exemplify, Gypsy Winkle, Provocative, Revelling Prince, Special Garry.

Dam Lucias First (Kimberlene/Lucias Maid), 2:23.0, produced 14 foals, several notable apart from Gay Acres. They included Gay Fella, 2:01.1US, $71,533 (WA Derby heat), Honest Reward (SA Sires Produce, Central Victorian Pacing Championship, Nyah/Coles Stores Cups), Sir Reveler (NSW Youthful – 2), Gay Debutante :

This is the family of Lady Ostic A4  (3:16.7), a grey mare who left one foal Miss Tommy (roan filly by Tommy II, NTT), bred by W Withers, Marrar, NSW. Descendants include Grand Circuit champion, Australian Harness Horse of Year Lennytheshark

Gay Acres, the first foal of Lucias First  recorded 11 victories (3 NSW/8 VIC including one at Melbourne Showgrounds) as a four and five year old, 2:07.6, $4,322 (4/5yo earnings only). Due to the lack of detailed official records, we can only say that she also won at two (2:12.0) and three (2:11.0).
