Arya, the well performed trotter, is back in New Zealand as a member of the Burnham stable of Bruce Negus. Arya, who has an open class assessment, has done her most recent racing from the Bolinda (Victoria) stable of Brent Lilley for whom she won the 2015 Victoria Oaks.

The Oaks was among nine straight wins in Victoria for Arya, who has won 15 from 29 starts. She had won a heat and final of the Australasia Breeders Crown at Melton when trained by Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen. She also won the NZ Trotting Stakes at that age. Arya, who raced in Australia as My Arya, was spelled in March and she has been back in work for six weeks.

The 4-year- old daughter of Angus Hall – Belle Galleon is raced by Christchurch breeder, Trevor Casey. He raced Belle Galleon, who won 11 races when trained by Negus.

The Negus-trained Pat Campbell collected $500 provided by the Washington VC syndicate for the most successful filly or mare at Forbury Park meetings during the season. Pat Campbell is raced by Negus, the estate of Pat Campbell, Diane McMenamin and Denis Smith. The 3-year-old Lis Mara – Penscroft filly recorded two wins and four second or third placings in 13 starts at the 22 meetings at Forbury Park this season.

Sam Ottley has won the Roger Kingsland Memorial Trophy for the most successful female driver at Forbury Park meetings for the second time. Ottley amassed 51 points with Jessica Young her nearest rival on 35 points for the 2015-16 season. Ottley won the award in the 2013-14 season.

Neville Simpson will be honoured by the Oamaru Harness Racing Club at a dinner on August 3 for his services to harness racing. He has been a member or the committee for 50 years and held various positions, including president and treasurer. He has also been a long time trustee of the Oamaru racecourse.
