7With a huge weekend of excellent harness racing action spread across the nation, punters should be fired up and ready to get amongst it.

And the Albion Park Harness Racing Club is providing extra incentive by staging a guaranteed $200,000 trifecta pool on the opening race on Saturday night which be staged over the 1660m.

That’s correct – $200,000!

The sprint scamper has attracted an even field which features several speedy beginners and pressure will be at an extreme level while luck in running will be crucial to the outcome.

Perennial Albion Park performer One Eyed Terror has drawn ideally and will start from the inside gate and therefore, will command plenty of attention from punters.

Prepared by leading horseman Peter Greig, One Eyed is shooting for his 25th victory at headquarters.

Albion Park course commentator Chris Barsby suggests the opening race is fairly difficult with a number of runners looking to regain some winning form but added that the dividend could easily be quite juicy.

“Tactics will play an important role, especially early but I think this race can provide punters will some strong value. Obviously the pool is massive and as we’ve seen with these events previously, the final dividend is normally attractive.”

Two weeks ago, the trifecta dividend with a guaranteed $200,000 trifecta pool paid $65.20 with odds-on favourite Five Card Draw scoring, punters can expect much bigger value this week with an even field.

“The start is crucial, there is no doubt about that and One Eyed Terror is a terrific chance if he leads which I think he can but the pressure in these sprint races is always extreme so it won’t be plain sailing for him. He’s had little luck at his past couple of starts owing to bad draws or bad luck in running and he should improve greatly here from the inside draw.

“With One Eyed Terror tipped to lead this race, Magical Mel is expected to gain the perfect trail and although his wins are well spaced, he can improve and should be respected from this draw. His latest victory was in a feature race last May here at Albion Park and does have recent placing’s in good company. Four starts ago, he landed a similar trip and was placed so he deserves plenty of attention.

“I think if you work your combinations around these two horses I don’t think you will far off but others to include are Audrey Maree, Im Born To Rule, Mickey McRooney and The Brazen Jasper.”

The first of 10 races is scheduled to start at 5.40pm.
