THE Gold Coast Harness Racing Club is about set to re-launch an audacious bid to find a new home.
The Gold Coast Club which conducted an inter-dominion series in has been without a home track since the Parklands complex was closed in 2013 in order to build a athletes village for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in 2018.
The club is hopeful of obtaining a site as soon as possible to be ready to bid for the 2019 Inters
The club has suspended legal action against the Queensland Government in hope to restart negotiations with the Queensland labour Government.
Club committee are keen to hold a meeting with Racing Minister Grace Grace in the near future.
It’s understood the club has letters from former Bligh-era treasurer Andrew Fraser committing to compensation being paid and a new club facility being built on the Gold Coast.
It is searching private land opportunity and also exploring the possibility of co-location at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
Another option is Boarder Park at Tweed Heads if the NSW Government goes toahead with the closer of greyhound racing in that state.
The Gold Coast greyhound and harness racing clubs have been homeless since 2008 and 2013 respectively, the Gold Coast Turf Club track upgrade was set down for 2014 and a new Albion Park grandstand was first flagged back in 2008. Yet none of these projects have even started.
It’s time for the Queensland Labour government and in particular the Racing Minister Grace Grace to get these projects under way before the next election.
