When we spoke to key board member Paul Ellis who (alongside Trevor O’Reilly) has been driving the Neds-APG Gold Coast Sale, he had this to say:
“While its clear our numbers on the GOLD COAST are down this year, what’s really pleasing are the opportunities this now presents to our loyal and insightful buyers. To think that just 36 horses will have the opportunity to race in a guaranteed final of $150,000. Many are telling me it has to be the greatest ticket in the history of harness racing”.
Paul continued: “I’ve been following and helping out at the sale for many years, and I can’t remember ever seeing a more even and exciting draft of yearlings over that time. It’s a credit to our consignors and we thank them for their efforts.
Former treasurer Peter Costello once told the nation to have “one [baby] for Mum, one for Dad, and one for the country”. Wouldn’t it just be great if those great yearling buyers from all over Australia did the same this weekend on the Gold Coast to get behind the breeders in the north that have are real passion and a commitment to the success and future of harness racing up here.
