LARRAKEYAH LADY was a star on the track in late 80’s. But it’s in the breeding barn that she has become a blue hen of the stud book, and a real maternal breed shaper.
Just turning 30 years young LARRAKEYAH LADY is owned by Bruce Cameron along with his brother Craig and P. Gleeson. She won 11 races from 56 starts including the Group 1, 4yo mares Sires Stakes.
In the breeding barn LARRAKEYAH LADY has produced 12 live foals. Nine of those foals were winners including Group 1 winner, Safe And Sound who clocked up just under a million dollars in prize money.
But LARRAKEYAH LADY’s fillies are the key to this amazing broodmare. Her daughter Lifeline, was unraced but produced Secret Life (the dam of Beauty Secret and NSW Derby winner Major Secret), and classic winners Lovelist (2015 3yo Southern Cross winner) and Punchline (2014 3yo Southern Cross winner).
LARRAKEYAH LADY is also the dam of Celebrity Ball. She was a four time winner and is the dam of Starburst Girl (10 wins to date).
Celebrity Ball is also the dam of All The Magic – a Live Or Die mare who has produced Rocknroll Magic. Rocknroll Magic has won 8 of her 11 starts including the 2yo Southern Cross last season, and the Talow Stakes at Melton.
Bruce Cameron said Larrakeyah Lady has been the cornerstone of his breeding empire, “She is 30 now and has no teeth, but she is still healthyand looks much younger.”
He went on to say, “We have 6 foals from this family this year. Two born already. Four mares are yet to foal, and we are looking to breed 10 mares this season.”
Cameron, who lives and runs a business in Adelaide, is a strong supporter of South Australian harness racing and SA BOTRA. He picked up the BOTRA Breeder of the Year award at Sunday’s Horse of the Year award night.
