Saturday November 7 will be a special date in the life of reinsman Luke McCarthy.
McCarthy brought up a career milestone at Tabcorp Park Menangle when he drove his 2000th Australian winner.
He started the night on 1998 and it took just the first two races for him to reach the magical 2000 winners. In fact he drove a treble on the program but it will be Birdy Mach’s win in race two that McCarthy will remember more than any other of his wins on the night.
His best win of those 2000 was on his favourite horse For A Reason in the Victoria Cup and McCarthy will be in the cart behind the stallion in Perth during the upcoming Inter dominion series, For A reason is now trained in Perth By Greg & Sky Bond.
Mc Carthy will also take over the reins on Queensland Pacing Championship winner Hi Jinx for trainer Ian Gurney
McCarthy drove his first winner on March 5th 1999 at Redcliffe when Castle Belles scored by a nose and has gone onto drive in 9729 races.
Currently just 33 years of age Luke McCarthy looks set to drive many many more winners before his hangs up the reins.
