It’s 21 days to the New Zealand Cup.
From now to November 10 we will feature some of the great races, horses and personalities with a new letter for each day.
F = False Step
False Step is one of only three horses ever to have won the New Zealand three Cups (1958-59-60).
The others are Indianapolis in1934-36 and Terror to Love in 2011-13. The horse beat Caduceus by a head in 1958, Gentry by eight lengths in 1959, and Sun Chief by a head for his hat-trick of wins.
In all the great Cecil Devine, False Step’s driver, won the Cup six times from 1951 to 1979.
The duo also won at Yonkers Raceway in the US, beating American champion Adios Butler along the way.
Racing from a two-year-old till he was ten, False Step won 22 races including 15 from 44 starts at Addington.
