If you have been to Tabcorp Park Melton during the past fortnight, chances are you’ve met Tobey Courts.
To be more precise, you’ve more than likely been ‘snipped’ by Tobey into buying raffle tickets for the upcoming Tab.com.au Charity Football Day.
While walking through the stalls, Tobey even put the ‘bite’ on new Harness Racing Victoria chairman Dale Monteith, who graciously purchased tickets from the young sales executive.
So impressed with watching the 13-year-old pass her shop throughout the race meetings, Pauline McGolgan, along with partner Dean Braun, has joined “Tobey’s Tally” as a sponsor.
Via the popular Melton Saddlery, McColgan has added $25 per goal Tobey kicks while playing for Melton.
“We are happy to donate to such a worthy cause,” McColgan said. “I keep seeing this young boy walking passed selling tickets to anyone he encounters, heading into the bistro or stalls and I am pretty impressed with his effort.
“I heard Tobey was planning to kick 10 goals for other sponsors, so if he gets those goals we will add in $250.”
Thanks to McColgan and Braun, should the budding footballer reach his target at the Strathfieldsaye Footy Oval on September 25, his 10 goals are now worth $1250!
Combined with tickets already sold, Tobey will raise more than $2000…with his sales to continue during the next couple of weeks.
Aldebaran Park and Tabcorp Park Melton are already part of “Tobey’s Tally”, with the two identities combining for $100 per goal should he hit double figures.
Tobey’s kicking will have to be straight as the ‘fall short’ figure under the Aldebaran Park and Tabcorp Park Melton agreement is $50 a goal.
Organiser Robbie O’Connell stated he “can’t praise Tobey enough” when discussing the latest goal pledge while also thanking Aldebaran Park, Tabcorp Park Melton, McColgan and Braun.
“When we started this day in 2013 Tobey was 10-years-old and already helping us carry boxes and working as our gofer,” O’Connell said. “At the function that night he was handing things over to the MC to be auctioned and so on.
“Now we’re ready for the fourth footy day and he’s still helping out. Even on the day he stands in the car park or near the club rooms handing out the kid’s prizes, like free footballs and showbags before going out to have a kick in the games.
“He’s sold more tickets than any other individual, and now if he kicks those goals, it’s a big effort from a 13-year-old.”
