Two-year-old filly Written In Silk justified her short quote when leading all the way to score in the $12,000 Ladbrokes Blue Bonnet in Hobart on Sunday night.
Driver Mark Yole took the $2.10 favourite straight to the early lead in a 28.7s opening quarter in the mile event before dropping the tempo to 32.2s with the Sportswriter filly running her last two quarters in 29.7s and 29.2s to record a time of 1m 59.9s.
“She showed a lot of gate speed the start prior, so I knew she had it there,” said driver Mark Yole after the win.
Written In Silk was inclined to over race during a slow second quarter where Mark was keen to slacken the tempo after the early burn.
“She was pretty keen in the middle stages, so hopefully they can settle her down a little bit otherwise it may be her undoing, but we did have to back off a bit after the work we did early,” explained the winning driver.
“It is always a big bonus with the young horses having good gate speed as it helps you put them in a good position, and if we can get her to settle we should have a lot of fun,” added Mark Yole with the win being his third win in the race after scoring with Ima Miss Molly in 2007 and Tanamy in 2015.
Written In Silk scored by 3.8-metres over Stepping Stones with another 3.6 metres back to the third place getter Resurgent Rebel.
There is a host of feature races for Written In Silk over the coming months.
The $15,000 Golden Slipper in Launceston has been moved to Wednesday 9 September, only four days prior to the Sweepstakes heats in Hobart where the $20,000 final will be held on 27 September.
Then the filly has the $50,000 Evicus, also in Hobart on 25 October, providing that she qualifies in the heats on 11 October.
Both the first and second placegetters were purchased from the 2019 Carrick Yearling Sale.
Written In Silk is raced by leading greyhound trainer Anthony Bullock and thoroughbred owner Jess Campbell.
“They picked her out at the yearling sale, they had to pay for her and hopefully they can keep getting the rewards,” added Yole.
The Hobart card was dominated by reinsman Gareth Rattray who drove four winners.
Spot Eight recorded his 13th win after putting a run of unlucky starts behind him to win a rating 45 to 53 event by 10.6 metres.
The fast class race of the night was a rating 75 to 84 event where Rattray partnered the Craig Hayes-trained Scooterwillrev to a two-metre victory in 2m 0.3s.
Rattray’s next win was aboard My Ultimate Major before he scored in the final race on One Yankee Ginga.
In the process of driving four winners, Rattray notched up his 50th winner of the season.
