15 January 2018 | Gary Crocker, Chairman, Allwood Stud Farm 2018 SA Yearling Sale Committee

While there is so many elements to this great sport of Harness Racing that captivate peoples’ interest, it’s always great to see professionals doing their job to world’s best practice.

Let’s take a look at this yearling photo attached. Not only is it the very first photo published for the up and coming Allwood Sale, which will take place at the Magic Millions Sales Complex, Morphettville, SA on Sunday the 11 Februaryit’s also in my view a perfect example of what prospective buyers request and look for when working through their list of potential lots they may purchase.

When consignors take the effort to produce this high level of professionalism for just the photo, it’s also gives me a higher level confidence that other more significate things like nutrition, educating and the yearlings well-being have also been attended to.

Over the past few years I’ve noticed a trend developing from some consignors to wait until only days before the sale before they are prepared to release a photo of the yearling that’s about to be sold. While this approach gives the consignor additional time to get the yearling at its optimal, it’s letting down the buyers in a way – and without their support, we have no industry.

The team at Alabar Farms need a huge shout out here, not only do they have this yearling looking so good with still 4 weeks to go before the sale, they are also donating the entire funds raised from this fillies sale to SA BOTRA.

Obtaining corporate sponsorship and support in harness racing is so difficult these days and Alabar Farms should be congratulated for their ongoing backing of SA BOTRA.  Alabar will have three lots walking into the ring that have been prepared and bred on farm and we do intend to cover these in more depth in the not too distant future.

For anyone that can’t make it to South Australia  on February 11th , Alabar can arrange on-farm viewings before these yearlings head to Adelaide later this week.

With just 33 yearlings in this sale, it’s truly astonishing that they will have the opportunity to race for more than $100,000 in prizemoney when they are 2YO’S plus a 3YO series that will be very exciting and will have a high level of prizemoney that many local and interstate owners will have the opportunity to benefit from.
