8The Mark Purdon trained Kept Under Wraps had only four NSW runs to impress the NSW Horse of the Year judges but with a group one Breeders Challenge victory thrown into the mix, the kiwi three year old has become a serious contender.  Under the rules, horses trained outside NSW can only be judged on performances in the state whereas all performances of NSW trained horses are taken into account.

Kept Under Wraps won a low grade race at Tabcorp Park Menangle before being beaten by Mouse In The House in a heat of the Breeders Challenge a week later.  The son of Bettors Delight was defeated as a $1.10 favourite in the semi finals of the Breeders Challenge by Casino Grin before clinging onto win the final the following week by a short half head.

Bling It On was a standout performer in the three year old category last year, while Home Of The Brave and Scandalman took out the award in the two seasons prior.

The other nominees for 3yo Colt/Gelding of the Year include

Artistic Flite – Last year’s NSW 2yo of the Year

Kilcullen – A five time winner as a three year old, including the Chokin Series Final on Miracle Mile Night.

Lets Cut Loose – Won eight races as a three year old and finished 6th in the NSW Derby

Milliondollar Wave – Won the Gr. 2 Breeders Challenge Blue and finished 6th in the Breeders Challenge final

Mouse In The House – Won eight races and performed well on country tracks around NSW

Spare Me Days – Placed in the Vic Derby behind Menin Gate and also won the Canberra Cup

Sporty Spook – Exciting three year old that didn’t win a race at Menangle but set track records during the season
