2Again, the harness racing industry is rallying together to help others in a time of need.

Following the devastation of bushfires last week that swept through parts of South Australia that left many homeless and valuable properties badly damaged, many from within the harness community are prepared to roll up the sleeves and help.

Some in big ways and some in small ways.

Bottom line, all the help is desperately needed and very much appreciated.

And it stretches far and wide from around Australia, and proud Adelaide lads Lance and John Justice are leading the charge trying to provide harness and general horse equipment to those who lost so much.

Others that have quickly offered assistance include Joanne Hopkins Saddlery, Kelly Stuart-Mitchell and Virginia Brosnan plus the Maryborough Harness Racing Club.

A Whiplash Sonic sulky has also been generously donated which will be raffled and all proceeds donated.

Leading Queensland reinsman Gary Whitaker has kindly offered his entire driving fee’s from his book this Saturday night at Albion Park.

Whitaker has six drives on the nine race program including several fancied runners.

“It’s the least I could do given the situation that took place last week, it was just horrible and I hope others out there are prepared to help in any way possible. I’m sure if I was ever in a similar position, people would return the favour.” Whitaker said.

Whitaker is currently 5th on the Queensland Drivers Premiership with 25 winners this term.

Other driver’s that have kindly donated their driving fees from recent meetings include former South Australian’s Kate Gath, Greg Sugars and Geoff Webster.
